Designing a room around a feature such as a fireplace wasn’t the only task for this multi-purpose room. We needed to give this home a minor renovation that included a redesign of the fireplace and added new built-in cabinets for practical storage and a growing art and glass sculpture collection. The gardens in this home draw you close to the windows, even in the winter, so we created a reading nook in one corner of the living room and another area near a large window for playing games or catching up on the news. The furniture and décor was made by local artisans and we infused our design influence on all of those pieces. The mix of materials including wrought-iron ottoman bases, hand-thrown ceramic tiles and a mouth-blown lamp add to the warmth and feeling of the room. In the dining room we placed an original GHID designed, hand-knotted rug that grounds the space and allows the color of the gardens to pour through the windows.
