Last week our entire GHID team packed into our cars and headed up to Vancouver, Washington to decorate The Lighthouse Church for this year’s Project Angel Tree event. After a few meetings with the organization’s co-founders, our design team was ready to delve right in and deck the space out in our Candyland – North Pole inspired theme.
Co-founders, Sid and Sheri Carter have been involved with the organization for some time now, most recently founding the Oregon and Washington chapters based in Vancouver, Washington. We have so enjoyed working alongside both Sid and Sheri to help with this cause. Not only have we developed a great partnership to help make Project Angel Tree a magical place for the kids to enjoy, but they’ve also become great friends of ours here at GHID.
We look forward to helping out with this event every year, and this year was no different. We had a blast doing what we love to do, for a cause we truly believe in.

What is Angel Tree?
Every child has a story, but for 1.7 million American children, that story is filled with the abandonment, loneliness, and shame that comes from having a mom or dad in prison. For many, it may also include following their parents down the same destructive road to incarceration.
With Angel Tree, we find ways to reach out to children by sharing Christ’s love with them at Christmas and by developing year-round relationships. In the end, it’s so much more than giving Christmas gifts – it’s about restoring families. At The Lighthouse Church in Vancouver, WA, we not only give gifts to the children from the parent who is incarcerated, we also throw their families a big Christmas party. The gifts they receive from their imprisoned parent have the opportunity to show the child their parent loves them, even though they cannot be there. The importance of the gifts cannot be explained. We have watched children be overwhelmed by the most simplest of gifts because, “Their mom or dad remembered them.”

Each child is presented with a gift from their incarcerated parent – what a special, special gift and memory for each child present. The joy on the kids faces is what this event is all about!
